Fully offline: no cloud, no telemetry, no automatic updates.

Make it easy for your staff to remove PII before using AI on sensitive docs.

Local PII Redaction is a Windows desktop app for batch redacting personal and sensitive data before documents are shared, emailed, or used with commercial AI tools.

The reality data governance professionals face

Your staff are already using commercial AI tools whether you like it or not.

Universities can tell staff not to paste personal data into third-party AI tools, but the practical workload still exists: summarising cases, rewriting communications, labelling documents, transcripts, contracts etc.

The Local PII Redaction desktop app gives staff a lightning-fast and intuitive step before that happens. The overwhelming principle behind the creation of this app is to make it as easy and quick as possible for employees to do the right thing.

How it works

Three steps between sensitive documents and safer AI use.

1

Add documents

Batch add text-based documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD) and choose where redacted TXT outputs should be saved.

2

Choose a profile

Use Strict for maximum caution, or create custom category profiles for teaching, research, legal, HR, or operational tasks. Custom profiles are saved locally for each user's instance of the app.

3

Redact locally

The local redaction engine redacts selected PII categories on the desktop. No document text is sent anywhere, and you can verify this by using the app while your internet connection is switched off.

Local-processing assurance

Designed so IT can verify the claim themselves.

No network required in use

The intended deployment model has no sign-in, no telemetry, no cloud activation, no auto-update, and no runtime network calls.

Firewall-testable

IT teams can block outbound access for the app and engine executables and confirm redaction still works.

Offline licence file

Annual licences are supplied as signed local files, with deployment scope managed by the client.

Manual updates

Updates are delivered as signed installers for IT-managed rollout, never automated.

Internal evaluation run on 6,000 labelled synthetic ground truth examples from a 56k dataset, using the exact same local app process users have. The app also allows custom exact terms and regex patterns for awkward local requirements, for example ambiguous organisation names that are also everyday words.
